Path of Exile 2 Overview
Path of Exile 2, developed by Grinding Gear Games, is the sequel to the acclaimed action RPG Path of Exile. It is known for its dark fantasy world and complex character customization that's similar in many ways to Blizzard's Diablo series. It's scheduled for a paid early access release on December 6, 2024 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, following a delay from its original November release to ensure a more robust server infrastructure. The full version will be released sometime in 2025 as a free-to-play title.
The game introduces a six-act campaign set years after the original, plunging players back into the corrupted lands of Wraeclast. With 12 starting classes—double the original lineup—revealed options include the Warrior, Huntress, and Sorceress, though the Early Access will start with only 6 and their ascendancy classes. Beyond the campaign, Path of Exile 2 features over 100 endgame maps, an expansive customization via a refined Skill Gem system, and the all-new Dual-Specialization system.
True to its roots, Path of Exile 2 expands its trademark features, including a reimagined loot system with hundreds of items and intricate crafting options. Paired with its significantly upgraded graphics and animations, the game aims to deliver a deeper and more immersive experience.
Path of Exile 2 Gameplay
Path of Exile 2 offers fast-paced combat set in a dark, top-down world. Players take control of Exiles through sprawling, hostile landscapes. Combat styles are very customizable, with the use of Skill Gems that allow players to change the properties of their abilities, and up to 5 Support Gems per Skill Gem to fine tune their effects. This creates a dynamic combat experience, where every encounter can be tailored to a player’s strategy, offering high-intensity gameplay that rewards planning and experimentation.
Customization is a core element of the Path of Exile 2 experience. The game features an expansive skill tree and a robust system for personalizing skills. Each character has access to a plethora of skills, along with equipment and gear that can radically change how those skills behave. The new Dual-Specialization system further enhances this by letting players mix abilities from different skill trees, creating an almost infinite number of combinations to suit a variety of playstyles.
Endgame content in Path of Exile 2 allows players to engage in various content that feature formidable enemies. Additionally, the endgame features a hundred new and unique maps to explore for greater rewards and tougher challenges.
