The game is set in an alternate Japan where Kyoto is the capital, and is being invaded by another world filled with monsters. A boy named Ray awakens to his powers and then enters the Hirasaka Academy. He joins the academy’s efforts in conquering the mysterious labyrinth called Xanadu, which is said to be the origin of this other world.
In Kyoto Xanadu, players must navigate the labyrinthine Xanadu in side-scrolling sections, then fight dangerous enemies in full 3D action-RPG combat. The game also features social simulation mechanics that let players bond with their friends or increase their stats through activities.

Kyoto Xanadu Gameplay
Kyoto Xanadu revolves around exploring the labyrinth known as Xanadu in a side-scrolling format, where they must fight monsters and use their abilities to reshape the terrain to traverse various terrains. When facing dangerous enemies, players will be taken to a fully 3D arena and use an action RPG combat system. Players can access a variety of skills that will deal extra damage to foes.
Outside of the labyrinth, players can explore various areas in the real world as well as engage in certain activities, like taking classes, to increase their stats. They can also spend time with their friends and grow their relationships with them.
