Gears of War: E-Day Overview
Gears of War E-Day is the sixth main installment in the Gears of Wars series and serves as a prequel to the original game, unfolding 14 years before its events. Developed by The Coalition and built using Unreal Engine 5, the game explores Emergence Day—the catastrophic moment when the Locust Horde, a subterranean species, first attacked humanity on the planet Sera. This title aims to deepen the story of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as they confront the horrors of this new enemy while forging the bond that defines their partnership in later games.
The game is expected to retain the franchise’s signature third-person perspective and cover-based mechanics. Players will utilize a variety of weapons, including the iconic Lancer Assault Rifle in its early form, now equipped with a bayonet instead of a chainsaw.

Gears of War: E-Day Gameplay
Gears of War: E-Day is a third-person shooter that is said to feature the series’ signature cover-based combat, enhanced with modernized mechanics powered by Unreal Engine 5. Creative Director Matt Searcy, in an interview with IGN, confirmed the game will lean heavily into the horror and sci-fi elements that defined the series' early entries.
