Developed by FromSoftware, Elden Ring plays similarly to games under the Soulsborne/Soulslike category such as the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. Elden Ring's gameplay involves roleplaying elements where players create their own character from the ground up; combat that spans strategic ranged and melee battles; and open-world exploration across the map wherein players can complete a myriad of quests and challenges, as well as explore different areas, dungeons, catacombs, and more. Combat in Elden Ring involves tactical and methodical strategy and skill-based fighting that has heavy emphasis on learning enemy attack patterns, as well as timing and positioning. In line with this, players can engage in co-op play and PvP combat.
