The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Gameplay
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an open-world adventure game that combines gameplay including exploration, armored combat, puzzle-solving, and survival. The game lets players explore an expansive, detailed, and activity-filled world at their own pace. In this game, players explore the King of Hyrule and new areas, solve puzzles, fight enemies, and uncover secrets of the kingdom. Players explore not only Hyrule's vast landscapes but also the sky islands above and the depths below it.
As Link navigates these new environments, he must uncover the connection between the sky islands, an ancient race called the Zonai, and the forces that threaten the Kingdom of Hyrule. The game features main quests, side quests, side adventures, and other challenges and missions that players can complete, as well as encounterable NPCs and boss fights.
Open-world Action-Adventure
Players control Link and travel the Kingdom of Hyrule where a variety of main quests, side quests and adventures, and other activities can be done. Apart from Hyrule, players also explore two new areas namely, the Sky, which consists of several floating islands, and the Depths, an underground area beneath the Kingdom of Hyrule.
Featuring open world gameplay mechanics, the game allows players to roam around the world, climb mountains, sail across lakes, fly between floating islands in the sky, and tackle challenges in any order. Players fight enemies, explore dungeons, and gather resources to survive. Different kinds of weapons, shields, and items can be used and are upgraded to make stronger.
Environmental Puzzles and Verticality
Players explore not only Hyrule, but also the sky islands above and the depths below it. With this map, the game introduces verticality to exploration, along with new areas that are filled with ancient Zonai technology, as well as new challenges and enemies. The game offers environmental puzzles that players have agency over solving.
Link Can Reverse Time
In this game, Link debuts new abilities like Recall – a time reversal mechanic that will allow him to reverse the fall of objects, and Fuse – which allows him to stick two objects together to use as weapons. Another ability called, Ultrahand, lets Link manipulate large objects in the environment, which he can then combine to create vehicles. Finally, Ascend pulls Link toward a ceiling, which he can phase through to gain a height advantage when traveling.
New enemies called Constructs – robot-like beings that come in different forms – are also featured. They can make use of weapons that can give Link a hard time if he's not careful in fighting them. Players get to face off against classic enemies simply known as the Bokoblins, the Lizalfos, and the Hinox
