The Last of Us Part II Remastered Gameplay
The Last of Us Part II Remastered includes gameplay elements identical to those from its original release in 2020. These include gritty and realistic combat elements, stealth portions against the infected, survival and crafting mechanics, and a narrative-driven progression that follows the protagonist as they hunt down their new rival, Abby.
New features have also been added to the game including a Free Play option for the guitar, new levels, new outfits, and a survival roguelike mode called "No Return."
No Return Mode is a Roguelike Survival Experience
No Return is a new mode added in the game's remaster that allows you to run a gauntlet of randomized encounters while earning modifiers to increase your effectiveness as a fighter. In true roguelike fashion, you only have one life, and dying will send you back to the beginning.
You can start as one of many possible characters, each with its own set of starting equipment, and playstyles, and build paths accessible as you finish encounters. The events in this mode are non-canon in the game's universe, so you can rest easy knowing that Joel didn't actually crawl out of his grave to shoot a bunch of bad guys for fun.
The Last of Us Part II Remastered Story Plot
The Last of Us Part II follows an identical story to the one presented in the game's original release in 2020. The story once again follows Joel and Ellie, two survivors trying to make ends meet in a post-apocalyptic world filled with monsters infected by a mutated strain of the cordyceps fungus.
You play as an aged-up Ellie in a story set several years after the events of the first game. The world still hasn't recovered from the ravages of the infected, but monsters have become the least of your problems, as religious cults and paramilitary groups have begun to stake their claim on the territories of the former United States.
