Spirit City Lofi Sessions brings the Lofi Girl experience to life. It is a unique game where you spend most of your time outside of the game, as it is a productivity tool first and foremost. With its charming visuals, soothing Lofi music, and rewards system, the experience truly fosters a sense of relaxation and motivation. However, while it effectively cultivates a productive and relaxing environment, the game's lack of content may not fully warrant its price tag, especially given the availability of comparable productivity tools for free.

Spirit City Lofi Sessions is a gamified focus tool that allows players to craft and chill at their own personal Lofi paradise. Read our review to see what it did well, what it didn't do well, and if it's worth buying.

Spirit City: Lofi Sessions Overall Score - 76/100

Spirit City Lofi Sessions brings the Lofi Girl experience to life. It is a unique game where you spend most of your time outside of the game, as it is a productivity tool first and foremost. With its charming visuals, soothing Lofi music, and rewards system, the experience truly fosters a sense of relaxation and motivation. However, while it effectively cultivates a productive and relaxing environment, the game's lack of content may not fully warrant its price tag, especially given the availability of comparable productivity tools for free.

Spirit City: Lofi Sessions Story - 6/10

The absence of a narrative in the game is perfectly acceptable, as it doesn't really need one given its purpose. Although, I wouldn’t mind having a story feature in the future.

Spirit City: Lofi Sessions Gameplay - 7/10

This game primarily functions as a productivity toolset, offering features such as timers and to-do lists. Gameplay revolves around personalizing your avatar's appearance and environment to create a relaxing atmosphere. Additionally, by altering their avatar's surroundings based on clues, players can collect spirits that act as companions provided by the Spiritdex by waiting for a designated period. While the customization and spirit-hunting aspects are enjoyable, the game feels lacking in features to incentivize productivity further.

Spirit City: Lofi Sessions Visuals - 9/10

The visuals of this game can be summed up in one word: vibe. From the vibrant yet somehow muted colors to the aesthetic of your room and avatar, everything is visually appealing and strikes the perfect balance to create a relaxing atmosphere. It offers a glimpse into a stress-free reality, visually embodying the game's desired outcome for players.

Spirit City: Lofi Sessions Audio - 10/10

The game provides a vast selection of streamable Lofi music, each track exuding a relaxing vibe. Moreover, players have the freedom to customize their room's ambiance by incorporating sounds of nature, such as rain or crickets, enhancing the tranquil atmosphere and facilitating a productive mindset while also letting your body and mind rest.

Spirit City: Lofi Sessions Value for Money - 7/10

Although I found the game to be a helpful all-in-one productivity tool, consolidating various productivity features into one platform instead of juggling multiple tabs, I believe there's a notable lack of content and tools that justifies its price tag, especially considering the availability of similar free alternatives in the market. Yet, I can't deny its effectiveness in boosting productivity. If you're in need of help in being more productive and have some extra cash, it's definitely worth a look. At the time of writing, it’s currently on sale for $9, which I believe is a more reasonable price to consider picking it up.

Spirit City: Lofi Sessions Review: The True Lofi Girl Experience

Let's admit it, those Lofi-girl music videos have been a lifesaver during study sessions, helping us relax and stay focused. So when I heard about this game being a gamified productivity tool, I was quite intrigued. As someone who struggles with time management and has tried countless productivity apps, I was curious to see how this game would fare compared to simply listening to Lofi music on YouTube.

This review is a bit different from my usual ones because I'm evaluating how effective this game has been in my life after playing it for nearly three days. I must say, it's been a pleasant surprise. It's not only fun but also quite effective in keeping me motivated and on track with my tasks.

Yes, at its core, the game serves as a productivity tool with some added gameplay features. Let's delve into the gameplay aspects. Firstly, you have the opportunity to design your own unique avatar, customizing everything from skin color to outfits, with the option to acquire more cosmetics using in-game currency. Furthermore, you can personalize nearly every aspect of your room, striking the perfect balance between functionality and relaxation to create your ideal workspace.

Then, there are the spirits. These serve as your companions, which you can attract and capture by adjusting your avatar's environment based on clues provided by the spiritdex and waiting for a specified duration. As you spend time in the game and utilize focus tools like the journal, habits, timer, and to-do list, you earn XP points and level up. These focus tools work together to help you maintain productivity and develop healthy habits, such as using the timer to take necessary breaks during work hours.

This game functions more like a background app that you can keep open intermittently due to its idle nature. The more time you invest in it, the more rewards you'll receive in the form of XP points, which can be used to obtain in-game currency and unlock new hints for the Spiritdex.

There's something about having the game running in the background while immersing myself in beautiful Lofi music and ambient sounds like a crackling fireplace and gentle rain that really enhances my focus. It's like having the perfect blend of white noise that keeps my vibes up and my mind engaged, hitting all the right spots to put me in the zone.

What's even better is that the game rewards you for staying productive, which adds an extra layer of motivation. It's reassuring to know that there's a tangible outcome for your efforts.

However, like many games, Spirit City Lofi Sessions does hit a ceiling, and rather quickly. I managed to complete the Spiritdex in just a few hours, leaving little else to engage with afterward. While it did enhance my work sessions for the time I’ve used it, I'm not sure if it justifies its price tag, especially when there are numerous free apps available on both PC and mobile that offer similar experiences.

To truly stand out and offer more value, the game could benefit from additional gameplay and productivity features. For instance, adding a mobile port with cross-play functionality or an online community hub where players can showcase their rooms and avatars, or even collaborate with friends, would enhance its appeal. While Spirit City Lofi Sessions is a fun, great, and useful productivity tool, it's not exactly game-changing.

However, considering the active Discord community surrounding Spirit City, I believe the game will continue to receive updates. So, it might be worth waiting for some of these updates to drop before purchasing.

Pros of Spirit City: Lofi Sessions

Things Spirit City: Lofi Sessions Got Right
Checkmark Great Productivity Tool for Gamers
Checkmark Relaxing Lofi Tracks
Checkmark Cute Aesthetic

Great Productivity Tool for Gamers

Image

Despite its limited content, Spirit City Lofi Sessions remains a solid productivity tool, especially for gamers who thrive on reward systems. Personally, I've integrated the game into my workflow, taking a 5-minute break after every 15-45 minutes of writing, which has proven to be quite beneficial in refreshing my mind and sharpening my focus. The spiritdex feature, while currently offering only a handful of spirits, adds an enjoyable element of reward to the work process. I'm optimistic that future updates will introduce more reward systems and expand the spiritdex further.

Relaxing Lofi Tracks

Image

This game offers a fantastic selection of incredibly relaxing Lofi music to unwind to. What's even better is the option to stream music or even play YouTube directly within the game if you fancy a change from Lofi. It truly captures the essence of being a laid-back teen, vibing to Lofi music while hitting the books.

Cute Aesthetics

Image

This game is pure vibes from start to finish, with its aesthetic capturing the essence of what you'd expect from a Lofi Girl experience. I adore the variety of colors and styles available, and I'm hopeful that future updates might expand customization options to include additional room features and decor.

Cons of Spirit City: Lofi Sessions

Things That Spirit City: Lofi Sessions Can Improve
Checkmark Lack of Content

Lack of Content

Image

The only aspect holding me back from wholeheartedly recommending this game to everyone right now is the noticeable lack of content beyond customizing your avatar, room, and collecting spirits. Even with just a few hours of gameplay, it feels like you've exhausted these features rather quickly. However, I remain optimistic that the developers will fulfill their promise of regular updates and actively listen to feedback from fans. With continued support and improvements, I believe this game has the potential to be a success.

Is Spirit City: Lofi Sessions Worth It?

Yes, If You Really Need A Productivity Tool

Image

This game is giving me mixed feelings. While it did help me in some areas, I have to acknowledge that it currently lacks overall content and options, such as a mobile port, which many other productivity tools offer. I don't see it as a replacement for other tools, but rather a useful addition. However, I'm hesitant to pay full price for it at the moment.

That being said, as of writing this, the game is on sale on Steam for $9, which I think is a much better deal and worth considering. If you're in need of a productivity tool, it's worth giving this one a try. Additionally, since this is developed by a small three-person team, purchasing it could also be a way to support them. I have confidence that they will fulfill their promise to update the game in the future. Also, if you're a streamer in need of copyright-free music while streaming, consider checking this game out.
