Of Ash and Steel Gameplay
Of Ash and Steel emphasizes "old-school" or traditional RPG elements by maximizing player control over the protagonist, allowing them to exercise their creativity and freedom to make crucial choices that can shape the story of the game.
Apart from the main story, Of Ash and Steel also has plenty of side quests that enrich the experience. And although players can go at their own pace, unlike many RPGs, Of Ash and Steel does not have quest markers. Players will have to pay attention to the world around them and make sure to latch onto important threads of information to successfully go through each side quest.
The game also boasts a robust combat system in which players can try out various weapon types and battle stances to suit their preferred playstyle, or to utilize different strategies when faced with all kinds of challenges and enemies. Players start out with middling skill and must work their way up to become more capable fighters.
Of Ash and Steel Story Plot
Not much is known about the overarching plot of Of Ash and Steel, but players start out as an average cartographer with boundless potential to influence the fate of the world. Similar to Baldur’s Gate 3 and other games that emulate old-school RPGs like early Dungeons & Dragons, this game places the fate of its world in the hands of the players. The story can play out differently depending on the player’s chosen faction and any crucial decisions they have to make down the line.
