Marvel's Wolverine Gameplay
The game’s core loop centers on close-quarters combat built around Wolverine’s claws and physicality. Insomniac frames the combat as "fast, fluid, and ferocious," and the official gameplay footage reflects this with Wolverine’s rapid slashes and combos dismembering enemies and momentum-building mechanics (referred to by the team as "untamed berserker rage") showing the his brutality. Developer materials also emphasize that Wolverine’s rapid healing factor is an active part of the play loop, and because of this, he "won’t go down easy if it means keeping the mission on task."
Encounters and level design, based on gameplay footage shown by the publisher, lean on cinematic set pieces rather than introducing an open-world, like in Marvel’s Spider-Man, Insomniac’s previous Marvel game. Trailers and official materials show Wolverine using the environment to close distance and create openings—for example leaping through obstacles, ripping through cover—which suggests encounters are designed to mix hand-to-hand exchanges with brief, scripted sequences, possibly takedown animations.
Marvel's Wolverine Story
At present, only limited official details about the story of Marvel’s Wolverine are publicly confirmed. The game, however, is set in the same narrative universe as Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles while crafting its own self-contained story.
Here, Logan (Wolverine) is on a quest to uncover the truth about his past. He inhabits a world in which his memories are fragmented or missing, and he must piece together who he was, what has been done to him, and why it matters. Along the way, he faces forces that attempt to keep the past buried, and he is confronted with characters—some familiar, some antagonistic—who are invested in either preventing or exposing his origins, like Mystique.
The game will take him through settings like Canada’s wilderness, Tokyo’s streets, and the island of Madripoor—each offering clues or conflicts tied to his identity—along with encounters with figures such as Mystique, Omega Red, and the Reavers.
