Elden Ring is an Action RPG set in an expansive open-world map. Developed by FromSoftware, Elden Ring plays similarly to games under the Soulsborne/Soulslike category such as the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. Elden Ring's gameplay involves roleplaying elements where players create their own character from the ground up. The game's combat involves strategic ranged and melee battles, requiring tactical and methodical strategy. Overall, Elden Ring involves skill-based fighting that has heavy emphasis on learning enemy attack patterns, as well as timing and positioning. In line with this, players can engage in co-op play and PvP combat. Its exploration mechanics is set in an open-world. Across the map, players can complete a myriad of quests and challenges, as well as explore different areas, dungeons, catacombs, and more.

Elden Ring is a dark fantasy that contains an intricate, lore-rich narrative that is conveyed through in-game exploration, environmental storytelling, and dialogues. The game is set in a decaying world known as the Lands Between, a realm where the laws of reality are shaped by the Elden Ring, a mysterious and powerful force that governs the cycle of life, death, and existence.

Following an event called the Shattering of the Elden Ring, chaos ensues leading to the Shattering War that leaves the Lands Between in ruin and brutal conflict among powerful beings that seek to claim the Ring's fragments. Players takes on the role of a character known as a Tarnished, a group of people exiled from the Lands Between and cast out when the Ring was shattered. The Tarnished were once favored by the Elden Ring, but they were cast out when the Ring was shattered.
