Cataclismo Story Plot
As you might have guessed from the game’s title, Cataclismo’s story revolves around the aftermath of a world-ending event with the same name. Having torn countless cities asunder, the Cataclismo left us broken. Now the Last City stands and the tide of Horrors refuses to abate.
Stone by stone, these fortresses will be built by your hand. City by city, the ruins beyond the mists shall be reclaimed.
Cataclismo Gameplay
Cataclismo’s gameplay is an odd mix of base-building/management and RTS elements, meshed together to create a sort of " last stand simulator" where the goal is to hold out for as long as possible.
The RTS elements are shown with the game’s resource gathering and horde combat systems, where your groups wander around a ruined world in search of materials to bring back to your citadel. Vast hordes of enemy Horrors will periodically threaten your citadel, so careful exploration and mindful defense-building will be your bread and butter.
The game’s base-building elements shine between each horde attack, allowing you to build resource-gathering buildings of varying efficiencies based on where you put them. These buildings provide you with the resources you need to shore up your defenses and prepare for the next wave.
Oddly enough, the defenses themselves are built differently from the rest of the game’s other buildings. Instead of being prefab structures that can be set easily, your walls need to be built brick by brick, stone by stone, and wall by towering wall.
The unique physics-based gravity of these constructions will be put to the test by their own weight and by the tide of enemies when they inevitably arrive.
