Call of Duty: Warzone Gameplay
Overview, Respawning, and Playzones
Warzone's gameplay revolves around large-scale gameplay where players get dropped onto the battleground and engage in first-person shooter (FPS) combat to survive and become the last Operator or Squad of Operators. Players can also complete Challenges through Seasonal Missions or Mastery Challenges to earn XP and customization options for the player card known as a "Calling Card." Apart from XP and Calling Cards, in-game currency or "Cash" can also be earned by completing Contracts, scavenging for loose Cash, and looting from eliminated players, among others.
The game features a respawn system called Gulag wherein players who are eliminated must win a short fight to respawn in the game, otherwise they will stay in Gulag where they can spectate the match or quit the game. In solo mode, players who lose the Gulag gunfight won't be able to respawn in the match anymore, meaning it is the end of the game for them.
In Warzone, matches are contained inside the map's "playzone" which is surrounded by toxic gas that depletes the player's armor plates and health directly. This forces players to progressively be in close proximity to each other as the match continues.
Warzone Game Modes
Warzone features several different game modes, each with varying objectives and parameters:
Battle Royale
Battle Royale takes place on a big map called Urzikstan, where up to 150 players battle it out to survive and become the last Operator or Squad of Operators. Players get dropped onto the map featuring a continually shrinking "safe" play zone, similar to PUBG, which forces players to be in close proximity as the match progresses.
Resurgence
Resurgence is a modified Battle Royale mode, where eliminated players can continually respawn into the match as long as there is at least one squadmate in their team alive. A squad becomes completely eliminated from the match if all of the squadmates get killed off. This mode normally takes place on a smaller map, with the objective of becoming the sole Operator or Squad of Operators left alive on the map. Resurgence takes place on Vondel, Ashika, Fortune’s Keep, Rebirth Island, and sometimes Urzikstan.
Plunder
Plunder is a squad-based mode where the objective is to collect the most Cash after a set time limit to win the match. Players can earn Cash by eliminating other players on the opposing squad and looting their valuables, scavenging for loose Cash, as well as completing Contracts and in-game events.
Lockdown
Lockdown involves multiple squads tasked to capture and control zones across the map, scoring points for each zone successfully held across a large map. In this mode, the objective is to occupy the most zones as possible to accumulate the most points and win.
Call of Duty: Warzone Story
Military Secrets and Factions Vying for Control of the City
Warzone takes place in Verdansk, a fictional city in a war-torn country, amid the backdrop of global conflict where various factions fight for control of Verdansk and its resources. Though primarily not a story-driven game, its narrative touches on stories from other Call of Duty titles such as Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard. Throughout the game, players complete various military objectives and uncover secrets, many of which relate to weapon development, espionage, and government cover-ups.
