Battlefield Waltz is an otome visual novel where players step into the shoes of the Maiden of the Cursed Sword. Read on to learn how it plays, what it's about, and everything else we know so far.
Battlefield Waltz Gameplay
Battlefield Waltz is an otome visual novel, hence its core gameplay involves reading through the story through dialogues and written text. Players will also need to make narrative choices in some scenarios to forward the story and to branch out into different routes. Some choices act as a flag, and must be activated for a certain route to begin. Battlefield Waltz keeps track of these choices through the Chronicle function, where players are free to jump into any chapter without needing to start all over from the beginning.
In Battlefield Waltz, there are a total of six romanceable male leads, each with their own story to tell. Initially, three out of six are available to romance immediately, with the other three being unlocked after finishing the others as some plot details will only surface through the story of the first three. Affection can be tracked in its respective menu, showing the level of affection a particular love interest has for the current playthrough through a horizontal bar.
Battlefield Waltz Story Plot
Battlefield Waltz tells the story of Lan, a young girl from a countryside village who is taken away from her idyllic life when her hometown is razed to the ground by mercenaries in search for the Cursed Sword, fabled to be lying in sleep around the village’s vicinity. While in an attempt to escape the ambush with her mother and a young child, they were caught by some of the assailants, who threatened death if they did not disclose the location of the sword. As it was long dismissed as a fairy tale in their village, none of the three survivors could say where it was.
Awakened by determination and the will to protect, the mysterious Cursed Sword woke from its sleep, fusing with Lan and fighting off the hostile warriors. However, the sheer power of the sword was too much for her, and she blacked out, only to wake in the dim halls of the nationalistic military academy, Nirvana. Several officers found them and rescued them, but are also wary of her power—after all, she is the wielder of the sacred sword, an immense power that could shake the very foundations of the nation.
With no home to return to, Lan, now the Maiden of the Cursed Sword, resigns herself to her fate in the town of Frontier, where Nirvana resides. In her journey, she meets new people, forges strong bonds, and hopefully—a place to belong. This is a story of war, the finding of one’s self, and romance.
