Core Mechanics
Batman: Arkham Shadow is a VR-exclusive title, and so you will be in the literal first-person view as you control and become Batman through the headset. You will have your controls be his hands as you beat up bad guys by using all your reflexes, gadgets, and training to overcome them.
Detective Vision, a hallmark of the Arkham series, makes a return, assisting players in scanning environments, identifying enemy positions, and planning their approach. The inclusion of VR heightens the intensity of stealth sections, where players must employ silent takedowns, use environmental tools like smoke bombs, and hide in grates or shadows to outmaneuver armed opponents.
Tools and Gadgets
Batman’s arsenal is extensive and designed for both combat and puzzle-solving. Familiar tools like the grapnel gun, explosive gel, and batarangs are integrated with VR mechanics, offering new ways to interact with the environment. For instance, players must manually aim and throw gadgets or physically manipulate tools to unlock doors or disable security systems.
Batman: Arkham Shadow Story
Set six months after the events of Batman: Arkham Origins and Blackgate, Batman: Arkham Shadow follows a younger, determined Batman as he faces a new threat to Gotham City. The mysterious Rat King, alongside his cult-like followers, plans to incite chaos on the Fourth of July by targeting key public figures like District Attorney Harvey Dent and Police Commissioner Jim Gordon. As riots engulf the city, Batman must navigate the claustrophobic corridors of Blackgate Penitentiary, confronting both iconic villains and unexpected allies, to unravel the Rat King’s sinister plot and save Gotham from descending into anarchy.
