Among Us Gameplay
A Game Made For Sabotage
Among Us revolves around completing objectives while navigating suspicion and deceit. Players are randomly assigned one of two roles: Crewmate or Impostor. These roles define your goals and influence how you interact with others during the match.
Crewmate Objectives
Crewmates must:
⚫︎ Complete Tasks
┗ Tasks include simple mini-games like fixing wires, swiping a card, or aligning engines. Completing tasks progresses the task bar, and if all tasks are finished, the Crewmates win.
⚫︎ Report Bodies
┗ When a player discovers a dead body, they can report it, triggering a meeting where everyone discusses and votes on who they believe the Impostor is.
⚫︎ Call Emergency Meetings
┗ If something suspicious happens, players can call a meeting at the emergency button to discuss and vote.
⚫︎ Avoid Death
┗ Crewmates must stay vigilant, watching for signs of sabotage or unusual behavior from others to avoid being eliminated by Impostors.
Impostor Objectives
⚫︎ Eliminate Crewmates
┗ The Impostors' primary goal is to kill enough Crewmates to create a majority or tie, ensuring their victory.
⚫︎ Sabotage Systems
┗ Impostors can cause emergencies, like shutting off oxygen or reactors, to distract or split the crew. They can also close doors to isolate players or delay discovery.
⚫︎ Blend In
┗ Pretending to complete tasks and participating in discussions convincingly is crucial to avoid detection.
⚫︎ Manipulate Meetings
┗ Impostors thrive on creating confusion and suspicion among Crewmates, steering votes away from themselves.
Among Us Story
Minimalist Storytelling
Unlike many games, Among Us doesn’t have a structured storyline. The game prioritizes player-driven interactions over narrative development, leaving much of its world open to interpretation. However, hints of lore and thematic elements scattered throughout the game have led to speculation and fan theories that add depth to the seemingly simple concept.
The game is set aboard futuristic locations such as spaceships, outposts, and planetary bases. Players take on the role of Crewmates working to maintain their operations or Impostors infiltrating these environments to sow chaos. This minimalist framework doesn’t provide explicit details about why the events are unfolding, but it establishes a sense of mystery.
Despite the lack of a direct narrative, the game’s environment hints at a larger story. For example, The Skeld appears to be a well-worn spacecraft, possibly indicating it’s part of a larger fleet. Polus, with its barren, icy terrain, feels like an isolated research facility, suggesting the Crewmates are involved in some kind of scientific expedition. MIRA HQ and its high-tech interior hint at a corporate entity or organization overseeing the Crewmates’ missions.
The limited background details of Among Us have sparked countless fan theories. The Impostors are often thought to be parasitic aliens or shapeshifters infiltrating human operations. Their ability to use vents and morph into Crewmates (if the Shapeshifter role is active) adds to this idea. The presence of MIRA HQ, a polished and corporate environment, suggests that the Crewmates might be employees sent into dangerous situations with minimal support. This theory gains traction from the high mortality rate and the lack of security against alien threats.
