Eternal Return Story Plot

Image

The game follows the same premise set by its predecessor, Immortal Soul - Black Survival. It follows the deathmatches on an isolated island called Lumia Island, where an organization called the AGLAIA is conducting experiments to force human evolution. They do this by repeatedly having "test subjects" kill each other until only one remains. Then, they repeat the process by reviving them and wiping their memories.

More details are provided through the manhwas "Black Survival," which features the test subjects Hyunwoo, Isol, and Hyejin as they work together to survive the battle royale, and "Black Survival - Bottomless Pit," which focuses on the mysterious Doctor Wickeline, a brilliant and deadly scientist who also serves as one of the major boss entities in Eternal Return.

Eternal Return Characters

Image

Eternal Return features 64 characters, also called "Test Subjects" or "Survivors," with two more planned to be released alongside its Official Launch season. Each character has a unique gimmick that gives them an advantage in the many different aspects of the game, such as Eva's ability to interact with objects or revive teammates from a distance, Sylvia's ability to grow progressively more powerful as she completes a circuit around every area, or Hyejin's ability to strike fear into her enemies as she continuously hits them with spells. Each character can be purchased using either NP, the game's premium currency, or through A-Coins, which can be obtained by playing or completing specific achievements.

Eternal Return Cobalt Protocol

Image

On June 8, 2022, Nimble Neuron introduced a new mode to the game. Unlike Solos, Duos, and Squad Battle Royale modes, which focus on ensuring survival until the end, Cobalt Protocol is a battle-oriented mode that resembles Call of Duty's Domination. Three Power Beacons spread around the map linearly are contested by two four-player teams. Points are deductive from a team every time one is eliminated or a Power Beacon is held by the enemy for 45-second intervals. Also, unlike Eternal Return's main game modes, where getting revived is either tricky or impossible, players can respawn indefinitely as long as their points do not drop to zero.

In addition, instead of allowing the player to choose their character and craft their equipment, Cobalt Protocol enforces a character and item draft where each team must choose between a total of 16 randomly-drafted characters and equip them with items, also randomly-drafted for a price.

Eternal Return Skins

The game features cosmetic items meant to change the characters' appearance. Certain skins also include unique visual effects for the character's skills. These can be obtained by purchasing them on the game's shop using premium currency, reaching certain Battle Pass levels, or through events and giveaways. Although most are always available to be purchased, some have limited availability, such as the Cadet series, which players can only obtain by reaching a certain rank in a given season.
