An official demo for the game was released on September 26, 2023 across all the game's supported platforms. Save data from the demo was confirmed to carry over to the game's full release.

The plot of the game follows Kirito and his friends taking up a quest to defend the Human Realm from the encroaching dangers of the Dark Territory.

This game pits Kirito and his party against the hordes of the Underworld in a JRPG-style combat system. Official press release notes of the game mention that this was intentional, as the developers want to retain JRPG mechanics while making the actions faster for smoother gameplay.
