Forever Skies Gameplay Features

Customizable Airship

You get to customize your airship base to ensure your protection from the toxic dust and the creatures of the Earth. You can add new rooms, build pieces of equipment, purify water and sterilize food. It's your home base, so improving it would be your best bet at survival.

Customization may be one of most anticipated features of Forever Skies as it allows the player to customize their airship. We can speculate that as the game development progresses, even the shape and material of the airship may be fully customizable, but this is yet to be confirmed.

So far there are no weapons have been shown in the demo, so we are left wondering how these scientists can defend themselves from creatures as they venture below the dust. Given the degree of customizability with airships, it would be great to see that same level of creative control over weapons.

Utilize Science to Survive

Coming across viruses that you need to overcome is inevitable as you try to survive in this harsh landscape. In the demo, you will likely encounter the Photophobia virus, which former scientists said made them switch entirely to a nocturnal lifestyle while being infected. Keep in mind, this is not the only virus you'll encounter in the game, so you will have to do plenty of research to combat the various threats to your survival.

You may be thinking to yourself: Oh, so this is just another post-apocolyptic survival game with a killer virus, and to an extent you would be correct, however, here, you get to study these viruses and even if you get infected you still have a shot at survival. Throughout the game you will find the notes of previous scientists' research and you will learn how to improve your survival rate. The beauty is, you are not starting your research from scratch, but rather you are building off of the shoulders of your predecessors and continuing their legacy. This reinforces one of the game's core themes: that we can overcome the unknown by setting out to learn its nuances.

Scavenge Ruined Skies

Explore and extract resources from the landscape that was once part of the world built to escape the toxic dust. You have to harvest materials, and discover why humanity was forced to abandon what they once called home.

Exploration can be a pain in any type of game but thanks to Forever Skies great UI design, it's easy to undertand for example what items are available in an area. The UI makes exploration experience much smoother and the players can focus on the search instead of wandering aimlessly. If the item is metal or synthetic plastic, you know you will definitely have a use for them to craft various items. We look forward to seeing what other materials will be able to be used for crafting in the final game, and how much freedom the player will be granted with those craftable items.

Co-op Multiplayer

Of course, no man is an island, so the Far From Home team made sure that the co-op feature would be available after the game launched in Early Access. A group of 4 gives a high percentage of survival, so if you find yourself struggling, try inviting a friend.

It's interesting how this game shows that despite needing to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, you can still make your airship cozy and survival doesn't need to be dry and intimidating. You can improve your airship to make it uniquely yours. You don't have to settle for your typical airship. Add posters to it, add more rooms, get trinkets from the outside and decorate your airship. It's completely yours.

Another thing that made this game different from the rest of the survival games is that you're playing as a scientist. Do you know what that entails? Smart calculated decisions that are not hindered by the government or other consumer businesses. It's not based on emotional heroism or reckless patriotism. It's all about science! Imagine a world where science is the basis of decisions. If you ever dreamed of being a scientist, you will love this game, and if you weren't interested in science before, this game might just change your mind.

Lastly, having a co-op as a feature adds an enticing element to the gameplay since you can be with your friends in this post-apocolyptic setting. Getting jumpscared and encountering the unknown is more fun with friends. Overall, Forever Skies is a game we look forward to experiencing when the final version is released. Also, since the game is currently in the Early Access, you have the opportunity to give your insights to the developers. Who knows, your suggestion may even impact the final game.
