The four-minute announcement trailer for Octopath Traveler 2 reveals that the game takes place during an industrial revolution where taller cities and trains are present. We are then introduced to eight new travelers and several different in-game locations. Each traveler will have their own path actions that can change according to the new day and night cycle system. In addition, the trailer features a lot of interaction and interconnecting storylines between the travelers, which the first Octopath Traveler lacked. This point was one of the main criticisms of the first game, so it's refreshing to see that there is more of a focus on character interactions in the sequel.
We also learn the backstories of two new travelers in the game: Agnea, a tavern dancer in a small town who aspires to become famous, and Hikari, a young noble prince hoping to end the never-ending war in his nation and bring peace to it.

Octopath Traveler 2 introduces eight new main characters that will embark on a grand adventure in the continent of Solistia. The list below shows each character and their starting class:

Octopath Traveler 2 Path Actions
Just like in the first game, each character will have their own unique Path Actions, which can be used to interact with NPCs. These path actions can vary from challenging townspeople to duels, bribing them with information, asking them to join you on your adventure, and more.
Day and Night Cycle System
Players can control the day and night cycle to change Path Actions and the available NPCs in different towns. All eight protagonists in Octopath Traveler 2 will have two path actions as opposed to the first game where each character only had one.

If you weren't a fan of the first Octopath Traveler due to the lack of character interactions between the main party members, then Octopath Traveler 2 may change your mind.
In Octopath Traveler 2, your party will have a greater sense of comradery as they explore a vast and diverse world together. On top of that, the graphics will be that same fusion of nostalgic retro pixel art and stunning particle effects as was featured in the first game.
Octopath Traveler 2 is a stand-alone game featuring a completely new set of characters, so if you haven't played the first game you can still enjoy Octopath Traveler 2 without feeling like you are missing any details. Despite being a sequel, this title works just as well as a starting point as the first game.
If you enjoy playing JRPGs with turn-based combat systems and character interaction, then we recommend buying this game. Octopath Traveler 1 may not have delivered when it came to party interactions, but it seems like the devs took the criticism to heart and are aiming to correct things in Octopath Traveler 2.
