Elder Scrolls 6 might have been teased by Xbox’s official Twitter account. Read on to learn more about the Elder Scrolls 6 teaser, its current progress, and fan speculation.
Elder Scrolls 6 Speculation and Xbox Teaser
Big Year for Games Ending in Six
The Elder Scrolls 6, along with other ‘six’-titled games, were potentially teased by Xbox in a post on Twitter. After announcing their Developer Direct this January 22, 2026, a user expressed in a quote post that they were looking forward to the upcoming Forza Horizon 6 more than the highly anticipated GTA 6.
In response, the Xbox account replied, "Big year for games ending in 6, though." While the response itself was vague and The Elder Scrolls 6 wasn’t anywhere near the discussion, this didn’t stop fans from taking notice.
Fans on Reddit took this as a hint that more footage of The Elder Scrolls 6 may be coming in 2026 through a trailer or developer update, perhaps during developer Bethesda’s 40th anniversary celebration this June. Though cautious fans also think that there is an equal chance that the reply could be completely unrelated and is simply referring to only Horizon 6 and GTA 6.

On the other hand, fans from the Persona series, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, also caught wind of the potential teaser.
With several rumors surrounding the long development of Persona 6, some fans believe this might be the year the game will receive its first game footage, much like the speculation surrounding The Elder Scrolls 6.
Users on Twitter have jokingly been pitting both The Elder Scrolls and Persona fanbases together to see which mystery ‘six’-titled franchises Xbox is referring to. Some have even humorously suggested that the company could be teasing another Sonic ‘06 title in the works instead.
Less Pressure on Bethesda to Rush Release

While fan speculation is on the rise over the release of more The Elder Scrolls 6 footage coming this year, interviews from figures at Bethesda paint a different picture altogether.
Former world artist Nate Purkeypile, who has worked on Fallout 3, 4, 76, and Skyrim, recently told Esports Insider that "there is less economic pressure" to release The Elder Scrolls 6 on a certain date.
But on the other hand, there seems to be more pressure "to actually make sure that it’s good" and that is "a good thing", he commented. Purkeypile believes the teams for The Elder Scrolls 6 and even Fallout 5 are in a no-win situation, given the high level of expectations set by the critical acclaim that Skyrim and other successful Bethesda titles have received.

Meanwhile, The Elder Scrolls 6 director Todd Howard commented last November 2025 that, ideally, the game should be shadow-dropped, after their success with the approach for the release of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered last year.
With the director emphasizing how the game is still a long way off, it seems unlikely for Bethesda to release any footage or release date anytime soon if their plans go through.
While this may come as a disappointment for fans who have been waiting for years before The Elder Scrolls 6’s official announcement back in 2018, Howard reassured that the game "is progressing well". He stated that their team is currently in the process of polishing the game and fixing bugs they find.
Unlikely Appearance in the Xbox Developer Direct 2026
With The Elder Scrolls 6 taking its time in the oven, it also doesn’t seem likely that the Xbox account is hinting at an appearance on its upcoming Xbox Developer Direct 2026 either.
Most titles appearing in the show have also already been confirmed in advance, such as Playground Games’ Fable and Forza Horizon 6, and Gamefreak’s Beast of Reincarnation, among others. This leaves no room for the game to make an appearance, save for a last-minute inclusion.

While there definitely is more time in the year for Bethesda’s highly anticipated RPG to make a big splash for their 40th anniversary, it looks like fans will just have to patiently wait until the developers decide that it’s ready to be shown.
The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently in development and is set to release for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information on the game, check out our article below.
