Tomodachi Life Release Window Announced
Live Your (Fever) Dream in Spring 2026

Nearly a decade on from the original, Nintendo has finally given Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream a release window of Spring 2026 during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct. The original Tomodachi Life was celebrated for being one of the most absurd yet fun things to have come out of the 3DS, but this new iteration appears to be expanding on that foundation with a host of new features previously unseen in the series.
The newest trailer opened with a fly-over of the island, then transitioned to the Mii creation suite, where players design the digital residents who will inhabit it. Here, they can fine-tune their personalities and voices, which is a core mechanic that shapes how they will interact with one another.

Once the Miis are settled in, they will then live their own carefree lives; the player’s role is to intervene and assist them with their everyday problems and desires. One of these are mini-scenarios, such as Miis needing to be fed or introduced to new friends. A difference from the original 3DS game is the apparent scale and complexity of these interactions.
Although the 3DS version focused on one-on-one requests, the newest trailer seems to suggest that Living the Dream will have a more focus on social dynamics. For example, Miis were shown in groups and participating in activities. Players can even drag one Mii next to another if they’re bored, and that would make them acquaintances!
Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Overview

The original Tomodachi Life on the Nintendo 3DS was a hit that captured a dedicated following with its absurd Mii interactions. Where else can you find digital avatars going on impromptu rap battles and magic shows? It was built upon the foundation of Tomodachi Collection, a Japan-exclusive DS title from 2009.
It seems that Living the Dream will still see Miis have wills of their own, getting into strange situations and forming relationships even without player assistance. The game’s newest trailer, however, suggests that it will expand on almost every aspect the franchise is known for.
A Spring 2026 release window means that the game is still some ways away. There is also no mention yet of pre-orders, price, full content lists, or platform-specific features. Fans, though, will be happy to know that they'll be able to live out their fever dreams in just a couple of months.
