Chrono Trigger-Inspired RPG “Threads of Time” Releasing on Xbox Series X/S and PC
Threads of Time PS5 and Switch Release Unconfirmed
Threads of Time, an upcoming 2.5D RPG title inspired by iconic games in the genre such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy, has been revealed during the Xbox showcase at Tokyo Game Show 2024. Developed by indie studio Riyo Games, the game is currently in development for the Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam. A release date for Threads of Time has yet to be officially revealed, likewise, releases for the PS5 and Nintendo Switch have not been announced.
Despite being a newly announced title, Threads of Time has been anticipated to rival fellow RPG Sea of Stars, 2023's much-beloved RPG darling, as a spiritual successor to Square Enix's iconic Chrono series. The game is Riyo Games' turn-based retro-style debut title that packs in nostalgia-inducing charm.
"Riyo Games’ vision is to craft retro-infused RPGs that awaken treasured childhood memories," the studio shared in its press release. "It all started with a promise between two kids, huddled next to their CRT TV playing RPGs after school, to one day create fantastical, story-rich adventures together."
Featuring 2.5D pixel art, Threads of Time puts players in the shoes of a colorful cast of unique characters from different eras as they embark on fantastical adventures through different epochs. The game's narrative spans through centuries—from the eras of "dinosaurs to mechanical robots," that will ultimately lead players to uncover a sinister plot that affects the "very fabric of time." Apart from the pixel art visuals, Threads of Time also packs in cutting-edge anime cutscenes that will unravel the game's intricate plot.
Additionally, Threads of Time has introduced a handful of charming party members including: a mysterious young swordsman from 1000 AD by the name of Rye, a skillful veterinarian from 12,000,000 BC who goes by Bo, a blade-wielding kitsune known as Rin from 2400 AD, and more. For those who want to keep this game on their radar, Threads of Time is now available to be wishlisted on the Xbox store and Steam!
