The Witcher 4’s reveal at The Game Awards 2024 gave fans a glimpse of how the fourth mainline installment of the Witcher series will look on the Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). This time, their State of Unreal presentation will showcase "some of the innovative technology & features that will power The Witcher 4, and beyond."
This may give fans a first look at The Witcher 4’s in-game or in-engine visuals, or possibly even gameplay. As of writing, CDPR has only released a CGI cinematic trailer, which, in itself, is visually stunning and intriguing, given that it unveiled Ciri as the game’s new main protagonist.
Another important thing to note is that CDPR stated the technology for The Witcher 4 will be used "beyond." This may indicate that UE5 will also run other upcoming CDPR games, such as the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2, but the studio has yet to confirm anything as of the moment.
Every Game Must Have Something New
In the latest episode of CDPR’s AnsweRED podcast, co-CEO Adam Badowski shared his thoughts on The Witcher franchise moving forward and how to keep things fresh. Currently, the studio is celebrating The Witcher 3’s 10th Anniversary, and Badowski revealed how they went about creating their games.
"At the very beginning of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we decided to combine those two things: water and fire. We would like to continue with this approach with all our next games," he stated. Badowski emphasized their mindset of adding something new to each game and trying to avoid doing the same tricks for their other projects.

He stated, "We have to add something that changes the consensus. We don’t want to copy our own tricks all over again and again. So every game should consist of something new." Badowski highlighted this as a general rule for the company, which led to the success of The Witcher 3.
It will be interesting to see what new concept CDPR will apply to The Witcher 4 and how Ciri becoming the main protagonist will affect the game, not only story-wise, but also in gameplay. The Witcher 4 is set to be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. There have been no announcements regarding a specific release date.
