The Outlast Trials Players In for a Treat With Halloween Update
Update Comes With a New Map, Amps, and Cosmetics
Subjects, get ready! Because the Murkoff Corporation has a few new treats for you in store via The Outlast Trials’ Halloween update! In a press release, developer Red Barrels says that the new update will have, among other things, a brand new map, added challenges, and a limited-time Halloween event.
The new map, called "Courthouse," will have players sabotage the court, kill the judge, and disrupt the proceedings - all while avoiding enemies and making sure they actually survive.
The update is also set to give players new Amps (skills), as well as Prescriptions (character upgrades), as well as cosmetics, and a new mini-game.
On the more technical side of things, the update will also roll out a few new quality-of-life improvements that will address issues raised by the player base. These include:
● "Reward efforts even in the event of failing a Trial" - which may mean you and your teammates will still get EXP even if you died or fail the trial.
● "Penalizing group players not participating in Trials" - which would ensure that players who aren’t cooperating with the team and/or actively sabotaging the team’s efforts to finish the Trial would be punished.
● "Improve the Trial selection process as a group" - so that everyone has a say as to what Trial map the team will take on during their game.
● "Keep improving the solo experience" - this may pertain to making the single-player experience more enjoyable. As we noted in our review of The Outlast Trials, it’s hard for solo players to complete the levels by themselves because the challenges aren’t scaled properly.
● "Keep improving the AI behavior in some edge case situations" - which may just mean better enemy AI.
The Halloween update will be rolled out on October 26, 2023.

Red Barrels also said that from October 26 to November 2, The Outlast Trials will go on 20% sale on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. If you’re interested in dipping into the Murkoff Corporation’s crazy experiments, then this is one of the best times to buy the game.
