The Day Before’s Disastrous Outcome

Developers Shut Down Days After

The developer studio behind The Day Before, Fntastic, is abruptly shutting down just days after The Day Before release fiasco.

In a statement released on the official Fntastic Twitter (X) account, they announced their studio’s closure, and that The Day Before failed financially, which they attributed their closure to. According to them "All income received is being used to pay off debts to our partners."

The statement also addressed claims that the game was a scam by saying "we didn't take any money from the public during the development of The Day Before; there were no pre-orders or crowdfunding campaigns. We worked tirelessly for five years, pouring our blood, sweat, and tears into the game."

Read the full statement below.

This came after The Day Before was bombed by angry critics and players alike upon releasing The Day Before, with complaints of the game being terrible, filled with bugs, and being unplayable. It’s nothing like what we saw in the game’s trailers and nothing like how Fntastic advertised the game as. It wasn’t just the game’s release that was met with harsh criticism. Fntastic was also under fire during the game’s development for multiple delays, even after promises of no more delays, and their open use of unpaid workers.

The Day Before Now Unavailable for Purchase, Fntastic Goes Ghost

Following the studio’s statement, The Day Before has become unavailable for purchase on Steam just four days after its early access release. Fntastic also changed its name to Eight Points, as evidenced by the Steam page of one of their past games entitled The Wild Eight.

Additionally, journalist Nick Calandra has posted a thread on Twitter where he compiled all the deleted content from Fntastic. As pointed out by Calandra, the company’s YouTube account is now empty, and Fntastic CEO Eduard Gotovstev’s Twitter has been deactivated. Additionally, his LinkedIn account has also been wiped.

DayZ and Rust Fires Shots at Fntastic

Shortly after Fntastic released their official statement, DayZ, an actual open-world zombie survival MMO, also released a statement that clearly pokes fun at The Day Before in the same font and format as the Fntastic’s statement. DayZ made it a point to mention the many things that The Day Before didn’t have but DayZ did as a game released 10 years ago.

Rust, another aging survival game, quickly joined in on the fun just a little over an hour after DayZ posted their statement. Rust’s official Twitter account shared the exact same statement DayZ posted, but with red corrections replacing certain things to make the statement apply to them better.

Fntastic Working With Steam To Refund Players

Image

In another recent tweet by Fntastic, the company addressed players looking to refund their $40 saying that they’re working with Mytona and Steam to "allow refunds for any player who chooses to request one, regardless of game time." This is great news for people who went past the 2 hour limit for Steam refunds. Fntastic also said in the tweet that they made $0 off of The Day Before, and won’t receive anything from the game’s sales.
