Tekken 8 x Waffle House Isn't the Collab We Deserve, But It's What Americans Want

Harada asks why many fans want to add Waffle House in Tekken and hints at its potential inclusion. Read on to learn more about the lore of this “iconic American culture” and why it may be included.

TEKKEN Could Add Waffle House In-Game

TEKKEN x Waffle House: Where Fights Are Personal

During TEKKEN Director Katsuhiro Harada’s usual advertising campaign for his talk show "Harada’s Bar," user @backendtechdev requested to add a specific American breakfast diner, Waffle House, to Tekken 8 as a form of a joke. Harada actually responded to the tweet saying:

"Ok, I will only ask once about this request. Why do some communities send me requests for ‘Waffle House’?
Please be sure to explain the basis for the request, including the original story, history and background.
I look forward to an explanation from someone who knows more."

And the floodgates opened from then on. While some responses and replies were memes and jokes in reference to Waffle House, there were actual serious replies that answer the curious director’s question.

User @TheOtherKav replied to the thread with how Waffle House is known for many things like being key to the US government by assessing disasters in different areas, being reliably open 24/7, and other details saying:
" Waffle House is known as a place with good diner food, fair pricing, basically always open (unless an actual, legitimate disaster is on going. Even then, they are working hard to get back up and running), with the occasional brawl.

It's the most American diner."

In summary, the breakfast chain is open anytime in its locations, barring actual devastating disasters and ongoing renovations to the place. With the locations being open 24/7, it’s often frequented by people who have just ended their night past most bar’s closing times, which means there are a lot of drunken brawls that take place at these different locations. These brawls are a reference to multiple videos that went viral, some of which even have the Waffle House staff involved in the melee.

Another user @RoloCnG even posted about the reliability of the restaurant chain with the famous "Waffle House Index," an unofficial metric of measurement created by former Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrator Craig Fugate for how devastating a disaster is in a specific area. Some users like @junkfoodarcades even backed this by saying: "Being able to go to Waffle House when things are really bad for some people (tornado, hurricane, etc…) 24/7 is what really makes this place stand apart. If you are in the south you know about the index.
If Waffle House is closed - seek shelter immediately."

So You’re Saying There’s a Chance?

With Harada’s curiosity finally sated, Harada expressed his gratitude to fans for answering his question, but pointed out that the fans are forgetting a very important point regarding trademark and rights to including the restaurant in the game saying:
"The restaurant has both the trademark and the rights to the restaurant, so if the restaurant chain's headquarters refuses to accept my proposal, it will not happen."

Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the restaurant already said no or if Harada didn’t submit his proposal already. But one thing’s for certain, it doesn’t really hurt to ask as curiosity can get you somewhere.
