Sony doesn’t plan to release "any new major existing franchise titles" this year. Read on to learn more about this and the company’s future plans.
Sony Won’t Release Any Major First-Party Games this Year
No Plans for God of War and Spider-Man Games this 2024
In their latest financial report, Sony President Hiroki Totoki announced that the company has no plans to release any new games from major existing franchises, such as God of War Ragnarök and Marvel's Spider-Man, until at least the end of March 2025.
Although Totoki didn't provide specific details about which other games aren’t slated for release this year, it's likely that the PS5 won't see titles from franchises like "The Last of Us" and other top-selling PlayStation exclusives anytime soon.
Hiroki states that Sony will continue to "focus on producing high-quality works and developing live service games," which might suggest that new first-party games like Concord and other "non-major" first-party games could very well be slated to release this year.
He stated that the company can "expect profit from first-party software to decrease slightly from this fiscal year," presumably due to the lack of major first-party titles released.
However, Sony does expect to see a gradual rise in third-party software sales and network services revenue with exclusive PS5 titles such as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Rise of the Ronin, all slated for release in 2024.
