Sonic Rumble Global Release Date Announcement Trailer
Sega announced on Twitter (X) on April 9 that Sonic Rumble will release globally on May 8, 2025. Alongside the announcement, they also revealed a new trailer for the game, which showed some gameplay footage.
Sonic Rumble is the first multiplayer party game in the series, which pits up to 32 players to compete against each other in different types of levels and gameplay. According to Sega, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they enter a toy world created by the villainous Dr. Eggman, making their way through treacherous obstacle courses and dangerous arenas!"
Since the game is free-to-play, rumblings about it having pay-to-win mechanics arose. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase spoke with Automaton in September 2024 during the Tokyo Game Show 2024 to clarify this sentiment. He explained, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items."
Sonic Rumble Reaches Over 900k Pre-Registrations
A few hours after Sonic Rumble’s release date announcement, Sega revealed that Sonic Rumble has now reached over 900k pre-registrations. Each milestone the game reaches will give players in-game rewards to jump-start their journey.

● 400K Pre-Registered - Happy Sticker
● 600K Pre-Registered - Crystal Chao Buddy
● 900K Pre-Registered - Garnet Knuckles Skin
● ??? Pre-Registered - Movie Sonic Skin
As of the moment, Sonic Rumble has yet to reach the final milestone in their pre-registration campaign. The goal to reach has also not been revealed, but fans can assume that this may be 1M pre-registrations or more, based on other games that have the same campaign. There are several weeks left before the game’s launch, so there is ample time for them to reach this milestone.
