SMITE 2 was just officially announced by Hi-Rez Games as a direct sequel to their unique third-person MOBA involving gods, heroes, and monsters from legend. Read on to learn more about the announcement and what’s to come from SMITE 2.
Hi-Rez Studios and Titan Forge Games Officially Reveal SMITE 2
Paladins and DKO publisher Hi-Rez Studios announced their latest project in collaboration with Titan Forge Games, SMITE 2. Serving as the direct sequel to their godly third-person MOBA from 2014, SMITE 2 will reimagine the battleground of the gods in Unreal Engine 5, boasting stellar graphics and new game mechanics for those looking to partake in some divine retribution.
Set to the intense beats of GODLY by Tommee Profitt and Vo Williams, this announcement trailer featured the game’s poster girl, Bellona, and other gods from the game’s roster in an intense 5 v 5 brawl across the divine battlegrounds.
Hecate is the Exclusive God for SMITE 2
The announcement was revealed on SMITE’s official Twitter (X) account and was tailed by a few follow-up comments regarding what’s to come for SMITE 2. Among them is a pseudo-god reveal for SMITE 2’s first – and currently only – exclusive god, the Goddess of Magic herself, Hecate.
This was joined by promises of new VFX, animations, and even abilities for the game’s current roster of 129 gods. The comment was hilariously bookended by an inside joke regarding the game’s resident frost giant, Ymir, and his oddly propulsive ice walls.
Reimagined Item Systems and Game Modes for SMITE 2
New gods aren’t the only things coming to SMITE 2, as the game’s primary game mode, Conquest, is also getting a visual and mechanical overhaul. Creativity is the name of the game in the Conquest mode. Stealth Zones now litter the battlefield, letting you get the jump on your divine opponents with careful planning. An evolving jungle now holds the middle of the map, with a Gold Fury waiting somewhere deep inside for the taking. Minion formations will also be getting a touch-up to keep even the godliest of players on their toes.
In addition to a new Conquest mode, the game’s previously clumsy item system will be doing away with relics as you knew them from the first game. Now, every slot of your 6-item inventory can potentially hold an active effect, accessible in the heat of battle with a push of a button. Talk about equipping divine armaments!
SMITE 2 is now on Unreal Engine 5
SMITE 2 promises to be more than just a graphical update to the admittedly dated look of the original MOBA. The game will be built using Unreal Engine 5, which can support better-looking character models and grander particle effects for a truly godly experience. This ground-up recreation of the beloved god brawler is sure to add a cornucopia of new features, game modes, and, most importantly, gods to the already impressive roster of the first game.
The game’s Alpha testing will be available sometime in spring 2024 and can be signed up for through the game’s official website, listed below. SMITE 2 can now also be added to users’ wishlists on Steam and the PlayStation Store for future updates and devlogs.
