Garry's Mod creator Gary Newman confirmed today to IGN that he received a DMCA notice late last year from people associated with the Skibidi Toilet copyright owners. Newman posted on a Discord server about the takedown notice, remarking, "Can you believe the cheek?" He subsequently saw himself embroiled in a Skibidi Toilet x Garry's Mod DMCA-related drama that went viral yesterday. Newman reportedly also confirmed that the matter has now been "resolved" following the reveal, though the identity of the DMCA sender has yet to be disclosed.

The notice Newman received pertained to his sandbox game published by Valve in 2006, Garry's Mod. The DMCA notice targeted "unauthorized Skibidi Toilet Garry's Mod" games, which generates significant revenue, according to the DMCA sender. These games use characters from the viral Skibidi Toilet web series, such as Titan Cameraman, Titan Speakerman, and Titan TV Man, all of which the sender claimed to be registered copyrights.

Skibidi Toilet is a machinima YouTube web series created by Alexey Gerasimov and uploaded on his YouTube channel DaFuq!?Boom!. The DMCA notice indicated that the Skibidi Toilet content originated from this channel. To note in addition, the notice was supposedly filed "on behalf" of Invisible Narratives. Invisible Narratives is a production studio associated with filmmaker Michael Bay, which recently acquired rights to produce movies and series based on the Skibidi Toilet series.

After Newman discussed the DMCA strike, an account claiming to be DaFuq!?Boom! took to the Discord server to deny any involvement, as he had been speculated to be the person to have sent Newman the notice. The YouTuber was able to contact Newman, and both persons’ confusion seemed to have settled. In addition to Newman confirming that they received the DMCA late last year, he added that "DaFuq has been in touch, all resolved," though not quite confirming if he had sent it or not.

DMCA Mystery Sender Seems to be Invisible Narratives

As indicated in the DMCA letter Newman shared, these Garry’s Mod games use characters associated with Skibidi Toilet. These cited characters included Titan Cameraman, Titan Speakerman, and Titan TV man, which, along with Skibidi Toilet itself, the DMCA sender have said are all registered copyrights unique to "our brand."

Though it hasn't been determined who the DMCA sender is, the author speaking in reference to their "brand" might be Invisible Narratives themselves. Additionally, the undersigned in the notice has appended what seems to be a domain ending with "@inviz.tv," which is tied to Invisible Narratives. The same @inviz.tv domain can be seen indicated on the public catalog of the company's "Titan Cameraman and 3 Other Unpublished Works" copyright.
