Hollow Knight: Silksong Sea of Sorrow DLC Revealed
Coming 2026
Hollow Knight: Silksong revealed its upcoming free expansion, the Sea of Sorrow DLC, launching in 2026. Coming off of winning Best Action/Adventure at The Game Awards 2025, developer Team Cherry posted a new blog post and a teaser trailer on December 15, 2025.
The blog post not only celebrated the game's success—surpassing 7 million copies sold—but also gave fans a sneak peek at the new, free expansion for Hornet's adventure. The 41-second trailer sees the bug-tastic heroine take on the high waters and begin their nautical journey across savage seas.
Although not much information has been shared so far, Team Cherry promised to bring in a plethora of new content to the game. "New areas, bosses, tools, and more! Hornet’s adventures continue in our nautically themed expansion, coming free for all players next year. We’ll keep further details a secret for now, but expect additional info shortly before Hollow Knight: Silksong - Sea of Sorrow releases," the developers said.

While Team Cherry co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen previously confirmed earlier this month that there would be DLC for Silksong, the specific release date of the expansion remains uncertain.
If the development pace follows a similar pattern to the original Hollow Knight's free content packs, fans could see Sea of Sorrow arrive in the first half of 2026, given that the original game's two major DLCs came within the first year of its release.
Hollow Knight Switch 2 Edition

Alongside the Silksong DLC reveal, Team Cherry also announced that they are currently working on an updated version of Hollow Knight for the Nintendo Switch 2. According to the studio, the Switch 2 edition "incorporates all the updates and enhancements that Silksong received on the platform."
This includes high frame-rate modes, higher resolutions, and other graphical upgrades. Furthermore, those who already have a copy of Hollow Knight on the Nintendo Switch can get the Switch 2 edition for free when it comes out in 2026.
Additionally, Team Cherry will update all versions of the original game on all current platforms with new features and bug fixes. Many of these updates are already available for PC via Steam and GOG, which include full 16:10 and 21:9 aspect ratio support for Steam Deck and ultrawide screen users.

With Team Cherry ramping up development for Silksong’s first expansion, fans are excited to witness the continuation of Hornet’s story. Considering that Hollow Knight had multiple DLCs, it is possible that Sea of Sorrow could just be the beginning of a line of expansions for Silksong.
