Haneda Airport Incident

Although Japan Airport Terminal Co. did not specify the reason for the event’s cancellation, citing "various circumstances" in their official statement, Twitter(X) users have speculated this was due to the unfortunate incident that occurred recently. On January 2, 2024, at the Haneda Airport, a Japan Airlines plane coming from Sapporo on the northern island of Hokkaido and a Coast Guard aircraft collided, resulting in the Coast Guard aircraft bursting into flames.

According to Japan Airlines, all 379 passengers on flight 516 were safely evacuated from the plane, and four of its passengers were taken to hospitals with no additional reports of injuries. Passengers were seen using emergency slides to flee the fire as firefighters helped.

Although Flight 516 received no reports of fatalities, the second aircraft, Airbus A350-900, reported the deaths of five male passengers, with the plane’s captain in critical condition after the collision. The Airbus that collided with the JAL plane was a relief aid aircraft for the magnitude 7.6 earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024, which struck areas of Suzu, located on the Noto Peninsula of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.
