PAYDAY 3’s anticipated October patch has been indefinitely delayed. Read on to find out more about the patch, the players reactions, and the developer’s responses.
PAYDAY 3’s Disastrous First Month
First Major Patch Slated for October Still Nowhere To Be Seen
Starbreeze, the developers of PAYDAY 3, took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that the first major patch for PAYDAY 3 has been delayed with no concrete timeframe of its arrival. This comes after a month since PAYDAY 3’s infamous launch that was plagued with connectivity issues that prevented players worldwide from playing the game on the first week.
The October patch was originally scheduled for October 5, 2023, but was then delayed to a vague "mid-October" timeframe. The update was supposed to bring along hundreds of QOL improvements "to ensure the stability of the game." Now as mid-October has come to pass, the developers apologetically delayed the already-delayed patch, which further garnered disappointment from the player base.
More Players are Playing PAYDAY 2 Than PAYDAY 3
With all the issues in PAYDAY 3 from launch, the player base has elected to return to the previous title instead. As seen from the 3rd party site SteamDB, their charts show a rise in player count for PAYDAY 2 after the announcement of the delay. According to Steam’s official charts, PAYDAY 2 comfortably sits around the top 40-50 spots of the games with the most concurrent players as of writing.
On the flipside, SteamDB shows in their charts that PAYDAY 3’s player count continues to gradually decrease as the problems persist with the absence of the anticipated update.
PAYDAY 3 Developers Apologize for the Delay and Lack of Communication
The official PAYDAY X (formerly Twitter) account apologized for the lack of communication regarding the patch from the initial delay to mid-October. They spoke of identifying more issues intended which they want to fix before pushing out the update.
Starbreeze Global Brand Director Almir Listo spoke to members of the community in his Twitch stream. He talked about the troubles the development team has with getting the update out, and reaffirms its indefinite delay. "I want to give you an exact date, but I can’t right now." In response to a live viewer asking if the update will even reach October, he replies, "It will come out as soon as we physically can give it out. I hope it will come out in October, but because we haven’t [been] given a specific date yet [by the dev team], I can’t confirm that."
This isn’t the first time anyone from Starbreeze has come out to apologize to the playerbase. Most notably during PAYDAY 3’s launch, the Starbreeze CEO came forward to address the connectivity issues and formally apologized for the inconvenience caused.
