Overwatch has revealed its newest playable character Sierra, a Damage hero whose abilities were teased during her cinematic trailer. Sierra will be released on April 14 alongside the start of Overwatch’s 2nd Season.

Sierra, Overwatch’s New Mountain Climbing Hero
Overwatch has revealed its newest hero, Sierra, through an animated trailer that also teases her abilities and gives a glimpse into the latest on the Overwatch vs. Talon power struggle. Sierra is a Damage hero who will be released on April 14, the same day as the game’s 2nd Season.
Sierra’s animated trailer shows the character, fittingly, climbing a mountain range surrounding the Naughton Vault and preventing Talon agents from stealing its contents. It then leads into a battle between Sierra and Season 1 newcomer Emre The fight shows off some of Sierra’s abilities, including a pulse rifle, tracking darts, and a grappling ability that allows her to move through ravines quickly.
No gameplay footage of Sierra has been revealed yet, but Blizzard is planning to release a gameplay trailer showing her in-game appearance and full moveset sometime this week.
Fans across social media have speculated that Sierra’s moveset would be as strong and meta-defining as Jetpack Cat’s due to a potentially similar mobile and beginner friendly playstyle. This remains to be seen when the hero launches, however.
Overwatch’s Latest Hero in a Series of Reinventions
Sierra is Overwatch’s first hero since the game launched Season 1 in February. This season served as a reinvention for Overwatch that also introduced five new heroes and moved the story along further by introducing the year-long "The Reign of Talon" story arc.
Reign of Talon sees the terrorist organization Talon eventually making more direct aggressions on Overwatch and the rest of the world. Season 1’s lineup of heroes was mostly Talon-aligned characters such as Domina, Emre, and Mizuki, who are either members of or partnered with the group.
Sierra is expected to be an Overwatch-aligned agent, judging by the events of her trailer. It is unclear yet if another hero will be released during the season, but more information is expected to be revealed later in the month.
