Nintendo Confirms Non Attendance at Gamescom 2024
Will Be Present at Other Events Throughout the Year
As reported by Eurogamer, a Nintendo UK spokesperson confirmed to them that Nintendo is not attending Gamescom 2024. "Gamescom is a great event, and each year we evaluate whether Nintendo should participate or not," the spokesperson said, "After careful consideration from all perspectives, we’ve made the decision not to be present at Gamescom 2024. Players will have opportunities to try out Nintendo Switch games at other events throughout the year."
Similarly, a representative from Nintendo of Europe informed Games Wirtschaft, "Gamescom is a central event in Nintendo's event calendar. This year, however, after careful consideration, we decided against taking part in Cologne. Instead, players can try out the games for Nintendo Switch as part of other Germany-wide events."
Nintendo had been consistently present at Gamescom in previous years. The company served as an exhibitor at last year’s Gamescom. While reports suggesting that Nintendo showcased tech demos for the rumored Switch 2 at the event have been refuted by Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, speculation surrounding Nintendo's new console persists within gaming communities.
Although official word and details on the Switch 2 remain scarce, rumors continue to circulate, with various reports and analysts suggesting a potential Switch 2 launch in 2025 at the earliest. Amid ongoing rumors and anticipation for the Switch 2, Nintendo has been actively implementing its new business strategy and initiatives. Throughout this year, the company has remained committed to supporting the current Switch console.
