Nintendo recently addressed concerns regarding the inappropriate use of its characters on social media, assuring that it would take appropriate action to protect its brand and ensure a comfortable environment for all players. During the recent Q&A session of its shareholder meeting, the issue of inappropriate use of Nintendo's intellectual property (IP) and games on social media was raised by a shareholder. They expressed concern that such misuse could damage the company's brand.

In response, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa reiterated the company's commitment to maintaining a positive and enjoyable experience for its community.

"I will refrain from commenting on individual cases," Furukawa stated, "but we believe that appropriate action must be taken against any behavior that undermines this policy." He emphasized Nintendo's management policy, which is to "bring smiles through entertainment." Additionally stressing the company's goal to create an environment where everyone can enjoy without feeling uncomfortable, "not only in our games but also anywhere they come into contact with our IP," he concluded.

Although Furukawa did not specify the actions Nintendo might take, the company is known for its strict measures to protect its IPs. The question raised during the Q&A was reportedly related to an incident involving a Mario cosplayer in Japan accused of sending alarming images to minors, though the English transciption of the exchange has been altered to only mention inappropriate use of Nintendo IP.
