Neuralink Let First Patient Have Control Over a Computer
Used it to Play Civilization 6 The First Chance He Got
The first-ever patient to have been implanted with a Neuralink chip, Nolan Arbaugh, mentions that one of the first things he did when he got full control of a computer was play Civilization 6 all night long. Arbaugh received the implanted chip into his brain last January, as first reported by current Twitter(X) owner Elon Musk.
Arbaugh’s identity as the first patient wasn’t disclosed until last week on March 21, 2024, when the official Neuralink Twitter(X) account went live at Arbaugh’s home. The livestream showed him in his quadriplegic state playing Chess on his laptop controlling and moving the mouse cursor, all thanks to the Neuralink chip implanted inside his head.
" I love playing Chess, and this was one of the things that y’all [Neuralink representative] have enabled me to do. Something that, I wasn’t able to really do much the last few years, specially not like this. I have used like a mouse stick and stuff but now it’s all being done with my brain," Arbaugh explains as he shows the laptop’s cursor being moved wirelessly.
He continues to share his experience with the implant, revealing that when he finally got total control over Neuralink and his laptop, "I actually stayed up until… 6 a.m. playing Civilization 6. It was worth it I guess is the best way to put it. It was awesome." He was unable to play and had pretty much relinquished his ability to play the game due to his condition, and it was a very long and complex game for someone to aid him in any playthroughs. However, now being able to remotely control the mouse cursor using the chip, he was able to play it lying down in the comfort of his bed.
"Y’all[Neuralink] gave me the ability to do that again, and I played it for like 8 hours that day…. Yeah, it was awesome."
