According to concerned Arkansas mom, Casey Dunn, game companies have intentionally gotten children and young adults addicted to their games in order to maximize their profits. The lawsuit is against Activision Blizzard, Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Sledgehammer, Microsoft, Epic Games, EA, and Ubisoft. It states that these companies “use patented designs, algorithms and marketing containing addictive features and technology” which then leads to addiction.

The plaintiff claims that companies have used advanced data collection, predatory monetization schemes, and feedback loops to draw their victims in. “These video game companies have targeted and taken advantage of kids, prioritizing their profit over all else. As a mom, I knew I had to do something to ensure they don’t get away with destroying the wellbeing and futures of our children.” says Dunn.

The lawsuit was filed after Dunn’s son suffered from the repercussions of game addiction. “We never imagined when our son started playing video games that he would become so addicted that his education would severely suffer, he would lose all interest in spending time with his friends, and his physical and mental health would be at risk,” she states.

Tina Bullock, the family’s attorney, believes that game addiction is a serious problem. “Gaming addiction is a serious, life-altering disorder that is stealing children’s lives and disrupting families across the country,” she said.
