Mewgenics creators discussed early DLC concepts and why development hasn’t started yet. The update came during a Reddit AMA prior to the game’s successful launch.
Mewgenics DLC Isn’t in Development Yet as Creators Gather Player Feedback
Mewgenics Creators Host Reddit AMA Following Steam Deck Verification

Mewgenics creators Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel hosted a Reddit AMA on February 9, 2026, shortly after the game received Steam Deck Verified status. During the session, they addressed a wide range of community questions, including what the future might hold for post-launch content.
When asked how long it could be before Mewgenics receives DLC, McMillen explained that the team is taking a wait-and-see approach. "I assume we will start on DLC in a few months after seeing what people like and want to see more of," he wrote.
He added that the team already has a rough concept in mind, "something small, like a few more classes and more areas," but emphasized that they don’t want to begin development until they better understand what resonates most with players. McMillen estimates that once work begins, a DLC release could take around a year—though he noted that this is only a loose projection.
ARGs Planned for DLC, but Players Still Have Secrets to Discover

A fan also asked how many secrets were included in the game. McMillen, who famously hid hundreds of secrets in The Binding of Isaac, responded: "We are going all the way to the core with this one."
Tyler Glaiel added that "there are a lot of little things that I think people will be discovering for months or years," noting that some mysteries are meant to be long-term discoveries. He also teased that "Alternate Reality Game (ARG) level stuff" is reserved for future DLC, suggesting that dedicated players could uncover more secrets and solve more puzzles in community-driven investigations long after the base game’s launch, similar to the ARG hunts seen around The Binding of Isaac.
Positive Feedback on Steam from Over 5,000 Players

Mewgenics currently holds an Overwhelmingly Positive user rating on Steam, a reception we reflected here at Game8 with a review score of 84. Co-creator Tyler Glaiel previously shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the team recouped its entire development budget just three hours after launch.
The game is a tactical, turn-based roguelite where players breed cats with inherited traits and abilities, then send them into procedurally generated adventures. Each run revolves around managing a growing family of cats, combining their strengths and weaknesses, and adapting to unpredictable encounters.
