Mewgenics Is Now The Most Played Roguelike on Steam
Overtakes Hades 2 With 115k Concurrent Players

Mewgenics has officially surpassed Hades 2 to become the most-played roguelike in Steam history, reaching an all-time peak of 115,428 concurrent players according to SteamDB. The record, previously held by Supergiant’s Greek action RPG sequel with over 112,000 players, was overtaken by Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel’s feline life sim shortly after its launch.
This is just the latest in a string of achievements for Mewgenics, as since its release, the title has already sold over 1 million copies. Most impressively, the game recouped its entire development budget in just three hours—a monumental feat considering the project was nearly 14 years in the making.
As of writing, Mewgenics is the 5th-most-selling and 11th-most-played game on Steam. It has garnered "Very Positive" reviews, with fans highlighting its rich gameplay and amazing soundtrack.
DLC Updates, OST Release, and Console Development
The Meowllion milestone is just the beginning, as McMillen reconfirmed on Twitter (X) on February 16, that Mewgenics will have a DLC. While the developers have yet to share specific details about the expansion, they stated that its development will start in a few months.
In a Reddit thread on r/SteamDeck, McMillen explained that they will first see what people want to be included in the game before working on the DLC. "We have a rough idea of something small, like a few more classes and more areas etc but dont wanna start on it till we fully understand what people [really] like about the game," he said.

McMillen also noted that the OST for Mewgenics is now available on the Steam page, which includes 82 tracks of "in-game album mixes, the 'House tracks' and a lovely [complement] of instrumental mixes." The soundtrack was created by Matthias Bossi and Jon Evans of Ridiculon, the duo who also brought the music for Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy, End Is Nigh, and other hit titles.
Aside from the OST and future DLC, McMillen reiterated that Mewgenics will be coming to consoles, with updates to be shared at a later date. A patch will also arrive soon that will address some bugs that have been in the game since launch.
Mewgenics is now available on PC via Steam, with console versions officially in development. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our page below.
