Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Breaks Franchise Records
Infinite Wealth is the Biggest Steam Launch in Franchise History
In less than a week, "Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth" has already reached a peak of 30,000 concurrent users on Steam, marking it as the most popular game on the platform for the entire Like a Dragon(Formerly known in the west as Yakuza) series. According to data from SteamDB, a third-party site dedicated to the Steam database, Infinite Wealth
claimed the top spot, followed by "Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name" with 13,737 users in second place, following "Yakuza: Like a Dragon" with 9,535.
While the full sales figures are not yet available, the game has already secured the 11th spot of the current top-selling games on Steam.
Infinite Wealth Has the Highest Pre-Order in Yakuza History
In a recent interview with 4Gamer, the creators of Infinite Wealth, Masayoshi Yokoyama, Hiroyuki Sakamoto, and Ryōsuke Horii, revealed that their game has achieved a new record for the franchise with the highest number of physical pre-orders. According to translations made by Noisypixel, Yokoyama mentioned that although its physical and digital versions make it harder “to compare the numbers with past titles, pre-orders for the physical edition of the game are "very strong."
He goes on to compare it to the previous entry Yakuza: Like a Dragon saying that "the number of pre-orders for the physical version was incredibly small." for that game.
Interestingly, Yokoyama mentioned that they felt nervous about the shift to a turn-based system and the main character no longer being Kiryu during the production of Yakuza: Like a Dragon. However, upon the game's release, they were pleasantly surprised to find that almost all the copies were sold out by the morning of the release date. "Salespeople who had received extra orders were even fighting over the remaining stock," said Yokoyama.
"Infinite Wealth" has garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews, making it the most well-received game in the series to date. Read the article below for a detailed review of the game.
