Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Player Numbers Break Records Again and Again

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 continuously broke its concurrent players on Steam each day since its release. Read to learn more about the game’s success and its future updates.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Opening Weekend Success

250,000+ Concurrent Steam Players And Counting

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) reached over 250,000+ concurrent Steam players as of February 9, 2025. KCD2 Creative Director Daniel Vávra took to Twitter (X) the game’s current peak of concurrent players on Steam of 256,206. Since its release, KCD2 broke its concurrent player record each day from February 4 to February 9.

 ● February 4 - 159,351 concurrent Steam players
 ● February 5 - 176,285 concurrent Steam players
 ● February 6 - 185,582 concurrent Steam players
 ● February 7 - 190,194 concurrent Steam players
 ● February 8 - 233,586 concurrent Steam players
 ● February 9 - 256,206 concurrent Steam players

According to several outlets, the game is estimated to have around 890,000 sales on Steam alone. Currently, KCD2 is the 2nd top-selling game on Steam behind Counter-Strike 2, as well as the 5th most-played game behind CS2, Dota 2, Marvel Rivals, and Banana.

KCD2 sold 1 million copies on its launch, and based on the estimates of its Steam sales, the game could be approaching 2 million copies sold as of writing.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Attention To Detail

Image

KCD2’s opening weekend success may be attributed to how Warhorse Studios focused on the smallest details of the game, adding more immersion and enjoyment for the players. Although the series already has a reputation for going the extra mile in realism such as food getting rotten when left, clothes and armor needing to be cleaned, swords requiring constant sharpening to keep their lethality, and more, KCD2 continues to introduce new things for players to make them feel that they are in a 15th-century medieval setting.

KCD2 Senior Game Designer Ondřej Bittner shared with GamesRadar a new stealth mechanic that players must keep in mind. Bittner explained that as players accumulate dirt and grime, at some point, they will acquire a debuff. "If you get the debuff that, you know, your body odour, you smell. There's like a circle around you" Bittner said. He added, "Basically, you're broadcasting, like, I'm here."

The game also introduced a new type of weapon called "handgonnes," a historically accurate depiction of firearms during that era. Bittner spoke with PC Gamer regarding their idea for the handgonne. He explained how the early guns were difficult to use, had long reload times, were unbearably inaccurate, and were generally unsafe for the user. He admitted, "So we knew it was going to be a meme weapon, but we were cool with it."

KCD2 PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling reiterated their goal of authenticity rather than hyperaccuracy. "We want to have an intriguing and cool and fun and nice videogame. However, we try extremely hard to make it as authentic as possible. We double check the stuff, so that when the player plays it, or whenever someone checks it, that the things that are listed in there are at least plausible." he said.

Post-Launch Roadmap

Warhorse Studios previously posted their post-launch roadmap that would further keep players engaged after launch. KCD2 will be giving players free updates and providing paid DLC content throughout 2025.

The free updates include the Barber feature, Hardcore mode, and Horse Racing which is expected to release in Spring 2025. Paid DLC content will begin on Summer with Brushes with Death, Autumn with Legacy of the Forge, and Winter with Mysteria Ecclesiae

With its overwhelming opening weekend success, KCD2 looks to maintain its commercial success with these free updates and future DLCs, potentially breaking its records in the process.
