Intergalactic: Heretic Prophet Set to Be Naughty Dog’s Biggest Game Ever
Druckmann “Antsy” to Share Details

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s director and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann recently shared in an interview that the upcoming sci-fi game is the studio’s "most expansive," "most ambitious," and "probably most expensive" game ever.
"I’m so antsy to show it and talk about it," Druckmann told Variety. "But announcing a game like this, you’ve got to coordinate with a bunch of people, so it’d be foolish for me to say when we’re gonna show something right now."

While Druckmann, who left pre-production on The Last of Us (TLOU) TV show’s third season to helm Intergalactic’s development, was not at liberty to share more details, he was able hint at what’s to come.
Looking back at Naughty Dog’s last two AAA franchises, Druckmann explained that Intergalactic will continue on the same trajectory, building off of Uncharted’s realistic action and The Last of Us’s added RPG elements. The Naughty Dog head continued, saying that mixing science fiction with what the previous two franchises had already established will give fans an idea of the direction that the fledgling IP is headed.
Naughty Dog Exploring Uncharted Territory

On the topic of sci-fi, Druckmann also shared that, despite Uncharted and TLOU’s scope, detail, and long-standing success, Intergalactic still posed whole new challenges for the established studio.
"[Uncharted and The Last of Us are] very grounded," said Druckmann. "Here, we have to not only come up with the universe and what the rules of the universe [are]."
As for the character writing, Druckmann shared that he is working closely with protagonist Jordan A. Mun voice actor Tati Gabrielle to bring the character to life, just as he did with Troy Baker’s Joel and Ashley Johnson’s Ellie in TLOU.
Film and TV Studios Already Looking Into Intergalactic

When asked about possibly adapting Intergalactic for TV or film, Druckmann revealed that studios have already approached Naughty Dog to create an adaptation, in addition to ongoing conversations around Uncharted and The Last of Us.
However, seeing as Intergalactic has yet to even release a gameplay trailer, Druckmann refuses to give these conversations too much weight and attention.
"I want to make sure we don’t put the cart in front of the horse," Druckman said. "This needs to be a fantastic video game first, and then if that happens and we have the right partnership, those opportunities would be great. But that’s not why we do what we do."
Naughty Dog Unsure of What Comes After

Shifting to the topic of a possible sequel, despite Intergalactic being announced as a franchise and not just a standalone game, Druckmann reiterated that the studio is not looking ahead beyond the game’s release.
Druckmann recounted The Last of Us Part 2’s completion and shared that the studio wasn’t even sure then of what they were going to do next. While there were discussions of jumping straight into a third installment, the studio ultimately decided to develop Intergalactic.
Once the upcoming project finishes development, Druckmann stated that they will still need to look at their other IPs, such as Uncharted and Jack and Daxter, for possible projects to explore.
