Horizon Steel Frontiers, The Series’ First MMORPG
Featuring The Signature Horizon Combat And A Vast Open World

Horizon Steel Frontiers, a new Horizon MMORPG, was revealed on November 13, 2025 at G-Star 2025, Korea’s premiere game conference. Developed by NCSOFT in collaboration with Guerrilla Games (known for the Horizon series and Killzone) and Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the title is the first-ever survival-adventure MMORPG set in the Horizon universe, set in a land known as the Deadlands.
As revealed in the announcement trailer, it is set to feature a vast post-apocalyptic open world and advanced combat inspired by the Horizon series’ familiar hunter-themed, action-based battle system. Players will be able to experience sleek solo combat as well as large-scale raids with other players, slowly forging their way to become a reputable machine hunter.

It will also make use of a wide range of customization features, allowing players to fully express their individuality through their characters down to the finest details. Choose from one of the four Horizon tribes—Nora, Tenakth, Utaru, and Oseram—and design the character exactly as imagined, from facial features and body type, to the hair, makeup, and more.
While there is no set release date or window as of writing, Horizon Steel Frontiers is slated for release on mobile devices and on PC via NCSOFT’s dedicated launcher, PURPLE.
A Horizon Dream Realized

With the Horizon MMORPG reportedly set to be axed earlier this year, it seems that NCSOFT never gave up on their dream to create an MMO in the series’ extraordinary universe. "When I first experienced Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017, I was instantly drawn into its vibrant and captivating world," says NCSOFT CCO Taekjin Kim in the dev commentary included in the trailer. "From the beginning, I was convinced: battling machine lifeforms would be far more exciting than facing any fantasy monster. That vision inspired us to create an MMO set in this extraordinary universe. And today, I’m proud to present Horizon Steel Frontiers—a dream realized."
Guerrilla Games’ Studio Director Jan-Bart van Beek echoes the CCO’s sentiment that the Horizon universe is an experience to be shared with others, thus leading to the creation of Horizon Steel Frontiers. "You’re sharing the frontier with thousands of other players, sometimes working together to take down machines, and other times competing with rival tribes or fighting over resources. And that mix of cooperation and competition creates moments you could never script," he shares.

"At the heart of the Horizon story is the search for the balance between humanity, nature, and technology. Sometimes that’s harmony, sometimes that’s conflict. But it always creates a world filled with mystery and beauty." Through this world that they created in MMORPG form, Van Beek hopes that players would feel the resilience, the hope, and the dream that it innately has.
Even in the Deadlands in a post-apocalyptic world, anyone can be a hero. "Step into Horizon Steel Frontiers as a truly unique machine hunter, crafted entirely by you, and explore a world where your individuality matters," states Sung-Gu Lee, NCSOFT’s Executive Producer. "We can’t wait to see you all become the heroes of this adventure, and we’re doing our best to make that day come as soon as possible."
