Hollow Knight: Silksong received a callout during Marvel’s Deadpool VR world premiere at SGF 2025. Read on to learn about Team Cherry's involvement and response to the situation.
Silksong Name-dropped During Deadpool VR Premiere
No Silksong Trailer at Summer Game Fest 2025
Hollow Knight: Silksong, the sequel to Team Cherry’s hit indie action-adventure platformer Hollow Knight, was a highly anticipated topic during the recent Summer Game Fest 2025 (SGF 2025). Many fans were looking forward to additional announcements following the shadow drop rumours and Steam package update earlier this June. Instead, the only mention of Silksong was in an unexpected name-drop during the world premiere of Marvel’s Deadpool VR.
Geoff Keighley—the host of SGF 2025—read out a note by Marvel superhero Deadpool, which closed with a playful statement: "You’re going to do me a solid and skip that Silksong trailer, so you can pimp my revolutionary VR game adventure that will shock the industry, probably."
The Silksong community reacted to the Merc with a Mouth with equal parts humor and frustration over the next few days. Some joked with light-hearted memes about the event, while others took the matter seriously, blaming "The Dead Pool Incident" for missing out on a Silksong trailer.
Meanwhile, Marvel’s Deadpool VR has been confirmed to launch exclusively on Meta Quest 3/3S in late 2025. To see a complete list of announcements and titles showcased in Summer Games Fest 2025 (SGF 2025), read our article linked below!
Deadpool VR Shoutout Was Unexpected to Team Cherry
In a response to a community question regarding Team Cherry’s involvement with Deadpool VR, Matthew "Leth" Griffin—Team Cherry's marketing lead— answered "No it was a surprise to us too."
Leth went on to say that the Deadpool call-out was “wild.”
"I can't recall the last time a game (presumably spending a bunch of money too) used their time to mention another game."
Despite the disappointment from some members of the community for the lack of a Silksong trailer, it seems that the Silksong team took the call-out in stride. "We paid a hefty chunk of money to be featured in the Summer Games Fest, only for our spot to be taken by a different IP because their main character said so," Leth joked.
The comment had since been removed from the Discord to avoid any potential misunderstanding from being taken out of context. The comment was made in jest and there was no real conflict between any of the parties involved. On the contrary, Team Cherry managed to receive publicity from Summer Games Fest 2025 free-of-charge.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. To stay up to date with the latest information about the game, check out our article below!
