It looks like spreading democracy just got a whole lot easier. Arrowhead Game Studios—developer of fan-favorite bug genocide simulator Helldivers 2—just announced on Twitter (X) that Exosuits will be joining the fight against the alien threat soon. Delivered in the game’s usual style of quirky militaristic propaganda, the EXO-45 Patriot Exosuit will be the first of its line to join the Helldivers in their ever-expanding crusade against all threats to Super Earth.
The Exosuits are relics from the first game that was seemingly absent from Helldivers 2 on launch, much to the disappointment of longtime fans. Towering over other soldiers as mobile heavy weapons platforms, these mechanized infantry provided the Helldivers with a diverse array of firepower to turn the tide against the bugs and automatons.
Although further details are yet to be revealed, the new EXO-45 Patriot seems to be a long-ranged defender with its triple-barreled autocannon and accompanying missile pod. Considering the nomenclature of the Exosuit lines and their similar weaponry, the EXO-45 Patriot could be an upgraded version of the EXO-44 Walker from the first game.
The exact date of the Exosuit’s addition to Helldivers 2 is currently unknown, although the announcement did stress that they would be "ready for deployment on the battlefield soon".
Players Are Using Elgato Stream Decks to Call Down Stratagems
In related news, a new trend seems to be popping up among Helldivers 2 players who own Elgato Stream Decks. Not to be confused with the Steam Deck, the Elgato Stream Deck was originally designed to assist streamers with the minutia of streaming by executing shortcuts and macros at the push of a button.
This very same functionality is now being used by Helldivers 2 players to call down stratagems in a similarly expedited manner. This was a strategy that some PC players—notably streamers—were already using, but the setup blew up among the player base when the official Elgato Twitter (X) account posted a video showcasing how it works, complete with a tutorial on how to set it up.
Helldivers 2’s "Rare and Amazing" Sales Curve
In further related news, Helldivers 2’s unwavering popularity seems to be catching the eye of industry analysts with its unusual sales curve. Circana Industry Analyst Mat Piscatella noted that the game’s success in its first few weeks after release was unprecedented.
"Feel like Steve Irwin sighting a rare bird or something," Piscatella said in a recent tweet thread running down Helldivers 2’s unusual success. "Rare and amazing, in an Australian accent even."
"It's rare, particularly for bigger games. Just saying 'growth' doesn't explain the nature—as 'growth' could be temporary, ie from discounting," Piscatella continued. "Using the term 'inverse decay curve' denotes that baseline sales are improving, unrelated to short-term things that can impact incremental demand."
"Normally, sales are biggest for a new release during week 1, and fall over time," Piscatella elaborated in the thread. "With an ‘inverse decay curve,’ the trend reverses. It's rare, particularly for bigger games. Just saying ‘growth’ doesn't explain the nature - as ‘growth’ could be temporary, ie from discounting.
Though Circana usually only publicly comments on monthly rundowns of industry trends, Piscatella found Helldivers 2’s weekly data to be "particularly fun" prompting him to "share this nugget."
It’s undeniable that Arrowhead Game Studios really hit it out of the galaxy with Helldivers 2, though the game’s release wasn’t without its own "bugs". Helldivers 2 suffered major server-wide issues shortly after release when it became apparent that Arrowhead’s server infrastructure was ill-equipped to deal with the sudden influx of players.
