GTA 6 Could Possibly Face a Year Delay to 2026
Still Aiming for a Fall 2025 Launch, but Could Delay as a Backup Plan
Last Friday, Zack Zwiezen of Kotaku reported that an anonymous source privy to GTA 6’s current development stated that progress is "falling behind" schedule, and that it might not make the announced target release of 2025. The source claims that this is the main reason why Rockstar had sent out a mandate back in February for employees to start reporting for on-site office work starting this April 2024.
Rockstar stated in its email to employees that the return-to-office(RTO) will be enforced to bolster productivity and tighten security, pertaining to the confidential leaks the company frequently experiences. As the title is more than half complete, the RTO is stated to put the development team "in the best position to deliver the next Grand Theft Auto at the level of quality and polish we know it requires."
Kotaku’s source continues to expound that the "more plausible and feasible" release timeframe for GTA 6 would have to be around Fall 2025. However, if complications occur and a "fallback plan" must be enacted, a delay to 2026 will most definitely be required.
Lastly, Zwiezen notes that he was reminded by his sources that Rockstar "historically waits until the ‘last minute’ to make changes or alter plans." Fans would have to wait until 2025 at the earliest for Rockstar to formally announce any type of delay.
