According to some rumors, PlayStation’s flagship series, God of War, may be getting its original trilogy remade for PS5. Read on to learn more.
God of War Original Trilogy May Be Getting Remade
Sadly, There’s Not Much Information Yet
God of War was and still is one of the most beloved game franchises of all time. Originally set in ancient Greece, Kratos sought vengeance against the gods of Olympia. However, now that he’s killed them all, the new God of War games are now set in ancient Scandinavia, with characters from Norse mythology instead of Greek.
Now there’s talk of the original trilogy being remade and fans are hopeful that the rumors are true. Ready your weapons, we’re (hopefully) going back to once again take on Zeus and his buddies.
The rumors are from the XboxEra podcast episode 191 entitled "The 4th Annual Grubbsmas Shpeshaltacular" wherein the host and founder, Nick Baker, reveals that he heard that this might be happening. XboxEra produces content like podcasts, reviews, videos and streams on all things Xbox. The podcast starts discussing this topic at the 1:55:34 mark.
“I for a long time have been a person who has bemoaned the direction God of War went somewhat, and have yearned for the hack n' slash OG God of War games. I just love them so much. And when I heard this might be happening, I told a friend of mine who also loves the OG God of War games and they got very excited. And I heard we might be getting the OG God of War trilogy remastered on PlayStation.” said Baker. He can’t say for sure whether it’ll be announced or released in 2024, just that it’s apparently in the works, as per his sources.
Unfortunately, there’s not really much else about it. We don’t know if it’s going to be a modernization of the old games that will replace outdated elements with newer ones, or if it’s just going to be a graphical upgrade but with the same exact gameplay, similar to the Demon’s Souls Remake for the PS5. There’s no information on when it will be released, if at all.
As with most rumors, take this information with a grain of salt. Until there's an official word, it may be best not to get our hopes up.
