The Game Boy Camera, a quirky piece of retro gaming history, is getting rebranded as a webcam, thanks to a new feature being added to Epilogue's GB Operator device.

GB Operator Releasing Game Boy Camera Feature

No Release Date Yet

GB Operator, a device created by the company Epilogue, allows you to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance game cartridges on a PC or Steam Deck. Soon, it will also turn the Game Boy Camera into a functional, albeit extremely lo-fi, webcam. GB Operator enables players to not only play old video games but also back up save game data and extract photos taken with the Game Boy Camera.

Today, Epilogue announced the upcoming update on Twitter (X), sounding the upcoming return of the Game Boy Camera as a webcam. "We wanted to share this update because it was exciting to see it finally work. We can't wait to see everyone having fun with it," the company said. "It's the worst and the best webcam you'll ever have."

The output is, of course, highly low-res. In just a few clicks, you can get your 16 kilopixel pics!

In addition to the Game Boy Camera update, Epilogue also unveiled the first images of its upcoming SN Operator. This new device will offer similar functionality and PC connectivity but for Super Nintendo (SN) cartridges, with Epilogue confirming on Twitter (X) that it is PAL-compatible. While details on the release date for the Game Boy Camera and SN Operator are still under wraps, the GB Operator is available for purchase on Epilogue's official website, at $49.99.
