Fortnite took the world by storm way back in 2018. After 5 years of constant updates, they brought back the original map that started it all.

Thanks to this change, Fortnite had its biggest day yet with 44.7 million players and 102 million total hours of play in just one day. According to Fortnite.GG, an unofficial but reliable game statistics website, the game also hit its highest concurrent player count ever, with 6,172,463 players online all at the same time.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season OG, or Fortnite OG, brings players back to happier times, with the original map coming back along with other old stuff that Fortnite veterans are sure to remember. It doesn't take us right to the beginning though, as it picks up from Chapter 1 Season 5. That means players will have access to the classic Assault Rifle, Pump Shotgun, and vehicles like the Shopping Cart and the ATK (All Terrain Kart). Key features that were in the original Fortnight like sprinting and mantling are still here though, so it isn’t a complete throwback to the old times.

It isn’t all rainbows and sunshine over at Epic though, as this milestone follows the gaming company’s announcement that it would be laying off 830 employees, or 16% of its workforce. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney admitted in an internal memo that, “while Fortnite is starting to grow again, the growth is driven primarily by creator content with significant revenue sharing, and this is a lower margin business than we had when Fortnite Battle Royale took off and began funding our expansion.”
